Terms of Use

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Mapletask ("Service Provider", "we", "us") about your use of the Popby mobile application and the room pages it opens on the web (together, "Application").

By creating an account or using the Application, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Application.

1. The Application

Popby is a small social app for close friends. You decorate a pixel-art room, look after a pet, visit your friends' rooms, leave notes, answer a daily question, grow a plant together, and share a hangout room with a few friends where you can chat. Things you do together with friends become souvenirs in your room. The Application is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE".

2. Who can use Popby

You must be at least 14 years old to use the Application. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using a service like this without a parent's consent, you must be at least that age. By using the Application you confirm that you meet this requirement.

3. Your account

You sign in with Apple, Google, or your email address. You are responsible for what happens on your account. We may change a handle or display name that impersonates someone or is objectionable.

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Me → Delete account). See Account Deletion.

4. Cookies and items

Popby has an in-app currency called cookies and in-app items such as furniture, wallpaper and souvenirs.

  • Cookies are earned by using the Application. They cannot be bought with money, sold, or exchanged for money, and they have no cash value.
  • Souvenirs are only made by doing things together with friends in the Application. They cannot be bought.
  • Cookies and items are a limited license to use the Application, not property. They are deleted with your account.
  • If we find cookies or items obtained through a bug or abuse, we may remove them.

5. Your content

You can create and share content in the Application, including notes left in rooms, friend intros, answers to the daily question, daily lines and replies, hangout messages, your display name, your pet's name, and the way you decorate your room ("Contributions").

  • Most Contributions are visible only to your friends, or to the members of a hangout you share.
  • If you turn on link sharing for your room, anyone with the link can view your room, your display name and your pet, read-only.
  • You keep ownership of your Contributions. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store and display them only to operate the Application for you and the people you share them with.

6. Community rules

Popby has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior.

You agree not to post, send or share anything that:

  • harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone;
  • is hateful, or promotes discrimination or violence against any person or group;
  • is sexual, obscene, or otherwise objectionable;
  • exploits or endangers minors in any way;
  • is spam, advertising, or a scam;
  • shares someone else's private information without permission;
  • impersonates someone, or infringes someone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
  • is unlawful.

You also agree not to use bots or automated means, interfere with the Application or its security, or try to access accounts or data that are not yours.

7. Reporting, blocking and enforcement

To keep Popby safe:

  1. Report — Every note, intro, answer, line, reply and hangout message has a Report option, and you can report a person from their room (the flag button). Choose a reason and, if you like, block the person at the same time.
  2. Block — Blocking someone hides your hangout messages, characters and daily lines from each other, and you stop getting notifications because of them. You can manage blocked people in Me → Blocked people.
  3. Review — Reports come straight to us. We review every report and act on it within 24 hours. We may remove the content, and suspend or permanently remove the account of anyone who breaks these rules.

8. Mobile application license

We grant you a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited right to install and use the Application on devices you own or control, under these Terms of Use.

If you got the Application from the Apple App Store or Google Play ("App Distributor"): these Terms are between you and us, not the App Distributor; we, not the App Distributor, are responsible for the Application, its maintenance and support, and any claims about it; and Apple and Google and their subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using Popby and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access, without notice, if you break these Terms or if we need to in order to protect other people or the Application.

10. Changes

We may change the Application or these Terms. If we make an important change to these Terms, we will let you know in the Application. Continuing to use the Application after a change means you accept it.

11. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED AS IS AND AS AVAILABLE. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AND WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APPLICATION. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be limited.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of the Republic of Korea, unless the consumer protection law of your country gives you the right to bring it where you live.
